Beetles are fascinating insects that belong to the order Coleoptera, which is part of the superorder Endopterygota. What sets beetles apart from other insects is their front pair of wings, which have hardened into protective wing cases. With approximately 400,000 known species, the Coleoptera is the most extensive order of insects, making up nearly 40% of all described insects and 25% of all known animal species. Here you will find some of the more commonly found beetles in our gardens.
