Flies are the second most vital pollinator group after bees and wasps, and here you will find some more commonly spotted flies that visit our gardens. Sadly flies are often viewed as filthy and not given a second glance. However, as shown here, they can be colourful and intriguingly different in appearance. They pollinate our flowers and recycle the not-so-pleasant leftovers returning the nutrients to the soil. With a 60% decline in insects within the UK, every fly, no matter how you feel about them, is now vital to our survival.
