About
The 7-spot ladybird is the most commonly found ladybird in the UK. They can reside in gardens, parks, and wherever aphids are present, as they feed on these tiny insects. Adult ladybirds hibernate in hollow plant stems over winter, often clustering together in large groups for warmth and protection. Interestingly, there is also a 7-spot species that migrate to the UK every spring from warmer climates. The bright colours of ladybirds serve as a warning to predators that they taste horrible. Ladybirds are a vital part of our ecosystem, as they help to control aphid populations and keep our gardens healthy.
