Amara aenea, or the common sun beetle, is a prevalent species throughout the United Kingdom. This beetle is a vital predator in agricultural ecosystems, playing a crucial role in regulating the populations of various crop pests. With its unique metallic bronze colour and elongated body shape, this beetle species can grow up to 8.5mm long. Commonly found in grasslands, hedgerows, woodlands, and gardens. The larvae are omnivores feeding on insect eggs and various plant seeds. The adults are also omnivorous, feeding on seeds and occasionally voraciously consuming aphids.
