About
The hairy, gold-speckled caterpillar of the large brownish drinker moth. These caterpillars are commonly found in marshy areas where they feed on various grasses and reeds. The caterpillars can often be seen drinking from due drops, hence the name, drinker moth. During the winter months, they hide away as small caterpillars within the vegetation. In the spring, they emerge and start feeding again and can often be seen basking on vegetation. Once they have fattened up, they will eventually pupate inside a papery cocoon formed on a grass or reed stem.
