About
The goldfinch is a visually stunning small finch; habitats including gardens, parks, woodlands, heathlands, and farmlands. Its diet primarily consists of small seeds, with a particular fondness for ragwort, dandelions, and teasels. The goldfinch’s long, pointed bill is perfectly designed for extracting these seeds, but it also enjoys invertebrates and will visit birdtables and feeders. During winter, goldfinches can be seen in flocks of up to 100 birds searching for food. However, some birds will migrate as far south as Spain to avoid the harshest weather conditions. Goldfinches are hardy birds that adapt well to various environments.
