About
Here is a more unusual find in the garden. The discovery of the ivy bee in 2001 marked a new arrival to the UK. Since then, this fascinating insect has appeared in Southern England, Wales, and the Channel Islands. As its name suggests, the solitary ivy bee relies heavily on the ivy plant for its pollen needs. This bee emerges during the flowering season of ivy, which typically spans from early September to early November. Ivy bees build their nests deep in loose, light, or sandy soil, where ivy is readily available for foraging.
