About
The Cabbage white, also known as the large white butterfly, derives its name from its food source – members of the cabbage family, scientifically known as Brassicas. Hence the Latin name, Pieris brassicae. However, despite its significance in the ecosystem, this butterfly is often unwelcome in allotments and vegetable gardens due to the damage it causes to crops. Despite this, the cabbage white remains one of the most recognizable and frequently observed butterflies in the United Kingdom.
