About
The small-vein moth Scopula imitaria, commonly found in southern UK, is a fascinating species that displays a network of delicate dark vein-like lines across its wings, hence its name. Fairly common in the southern half of Britain but found more locally further north. It is sandy brown in colouration, whereas the similar Timandra griseata is more pinkish. With Timandra griseata the second vein line across the wings joins the main central vein line at the tips of the wings. The two vein line markings across the wings of Scopula imitaria are separated.
